Head over here if you haven't seen Part 1 yet.
Welcome to part two of our retrospective of the N.O.V.A. series. Last time we journeyed with Kal Wardin he uncovered the truth behind the Xenos, The Judgers, and destroyed one spaceship – if you haven’t seen that yet, you should go back and check it out now.
A new war
N.O.V.A. 2 picks up the political intrigue. Kal Wardin has retired to the planet Scorpios intent on leading a peaceful life. He manages to avoid prying eyes for six years until civil unrest erupts between the Terran Orbital government and the Human-Volterite Alliance. When this fight spills over onto Scorpios, Kal is once again forced to pick up his weapon and fight back against the Human-Volterite force.
Yup, Kal wins, and this is when Prometheus calls on him to once again protect the galaxy by destroying a Volterite Factory on the planet of Aquarius.
Ever unlucky, Kal’s journey to Aquarius is not an easy one and his ship is swarmed by Volterite. Victory comes at the cost of the ship, as he blows out the escape hatch and makes his exit before it crash-lands on Aquarius.
Welcome to Aquarius
Note to self - never fly NOVA airlines.
Still, at least he is on Aquarius - so I guess that’s good?
Yelena points Kal towards his objective. Upon reaching the factory he successfully sabotages it - but Kal’s karma won’t let him rest. Yelena reveals that Volterite forces are at the ship trying to delete her. Capturing a buggy, Kal rushes to her rescue...
In a way, you have to feel sorry for the Volterite trying to delete Yelena. In the past few hours, Kal has taken down a ship, a factory, and half a planet. They have a very bad day as Kal takes them out and then takes off with Yelena in the ship.
I'd like to direct your attention to our flight crew who will take you through our safety procedures. Buckle up, assume the brace position, and prepare for impact. Thank you for flying NOVA airlines.
Pursuing Volterite fighters damage his engines and bring Kal back down to the surface near some alien ruins.
The true target
But Kal’s luck is on point because these ruins contain an artifact of the Judgers. And if you don’t know who they are you really need to check out our last video. This item is revealed to be the Volderite’s true objective.
Not wanting the relic to fall into Alliance hands, Kal infiltrates the ruins. Beating the Volterites to the objective. Kal then activates the structure's old but advanced defense system, securing the relic for the Judgers.
For good measure he also manages to take out the human figurehead of the Human-Volterite Alliance, President Gerard Folsom, who is a puppet of the alien Overseer – I’m sure that won’t cause any issues in the future…
Won the battle... but not the war
And that’s part two of N.O.V.A. In which Kal took down a political group, secured a relic, and wrote off two more starships – taking his total up to three in two games.
