🕵️‍♀️ Who is Carmen now?

In this version of Carmen Sandiego, Carmen is no longer the thief being chased, she’s doing the chasing. With help from her tech-savvy friend Player, she’s working alongside ACME to stop her old organisation, VILE, from pulling off a series of dangerous global heists.

It’s a cat-and-mouse adventure packed with problem-solving, reading comprehension, geography, and observation skills, perfect for curious minds.

🧭 What’s the game about?

Your child takes on the role of Carmen, racing against the clock to solve international cases. Each case is set in real-world cities and involves:

  • Investigating clues left by VILE operatives
  • Questioning locals (with a dash of humour!)
  • Making decisions that affect how the story unfolds
  • Identifying suspects using ACME’s crime database
  • Travelling the globe using real cultural and geographical knowledge

Just like Carmen games of the past each caper has a countdown, so time management is key!

🧠 What skills does it teach?

  • Geography & culture: Cities and landmarks are based on real-world locations.
  • Critical thinking: Players must weigh evidence, track patterns, and draw conclusions.
  • Memory & logic: Clues stack up over time, remembering key details is essential. Don’t forget that handy almanac!
  • Decision-making: Every action uses up time, so choices really matter.

👪 How can I get involved?

Even though Carmen is a single-player game, there are plenty of ways to connect:

  • Ask questions: “Where are you headed next?” or “What clue helped you figure that out?”
  • Join the chase: Try solving a clue together, especially ones based on cultural facts or geography.
  • Spot familiar places: Have you been to any of the cities in the game? Share your own travel stories or look them up together.
  • Celebrate wins: Solving a tough case feels like a victory. Cheer them on!

🧳 Bonus: What’s in the game?

There are a few different modes your child might mention, here’s a quick breakdown:

  • Campaign Mode: The main story-driven missions.
  • The ACME Files: A retro-styled mode with pixel graphics, inspired by the 80s original.
  • Mini-games: Short, skill-based activities like lock-picking or safe-cracking.
  • Stealth & tracking levels: Fun challenges involving spy gadgets, sneaking, and clue-gathering.

🎯 TL;DR: Why Parents Love It

  • No violence or combat
  • Encourages exploration and learning
  • Builds curiosity about the world
  • Easy to understand, but challenging to master

So, the next time your child asks for help in Carmen Sandiego, you won’t just be guessing,  you’ll be ready to help catch the criminal yourself!

Til Next Crime!
