Gameloft
From player to creator - Build your first 3D Game in Unreal Engine 5
October 10, 2025

Ever played a game and thought: “I could make this even better?” Or maybe you've just been fascinated by the magic that happens behind the screen, the code that brings entire worlds to life. If you're ready to stop just playing games and start building them, we've got something special for you.

This isn't your average university course. This is a hands-on, deep-dive workshop where you'll master Unreal Engine 5, the industry-leading engine used to create some of the biggest AAA games in the world. You'll learn the fundamental principles of game logic and visual scripting, using powerful tools to build your very own game from the ground up.

Get ready for a practical and fun journey into:
•    Unreal Engine 5 Editor Basics
•    Blueprint Visual Scripting Events
•    Functions & Flow Control
•    Variables & Arrays
•    Blueprint Communication
•    Game Logic & Debugging
•    ... and so much more

What will you learn in the workshop sessions

This workshop is all about practical skills. We'll start with a blank screen and end with a game you can call your own.

You’ll learn how to build game mechanics piece by piece using UE5's Blueprint system. We'll dive into how to create and manage logic using Events, Functions, and Flow Control. You will understand how to store and manipulate data using Variables and Arrays, and how to make different elements of your game interact seamlessly through Blueprint Communication.

Beyond the core visual scripting, we'll cover crucial secondary skills: navigating the Unreal Editor like a pro, setting up inputs for playable characters, understanding game modes, managing collisions, and utilizing Unreal's built-in debugging tools to fix issues efficiently.

The tech stack is modern and powerful: we'll be focusing on the highly sought-after Unreal Engine 5 and its robust visual scripting architecture.

Let's talk about the selection test

To make sure everyone starts with a solid foundation, there’s a selection test.
•    When: April 5th, at 8:00 AM (duration: 2 hours).
•    Where: Room EG 204.
•    What to expect: The test covers logical thinking and basic programming principles. It has two parts: a written section with short logic/algorithmic questions and a practical exercise where you'll write a small program on a computer to test your problem-solving skills.

Don't let the test scare you off. Even if you feel you're a beginner, we encourage you to apply. Once you sign up, we'll send you an email packed with useful links, tutorials and sample questions to help you prepare. This isn't about getting a perfect score, it's about showing you're ready to learn. We'll select the top 11 candidates to join the workshop.

Plus, you can bring books or use the internet for reference during the test (just no communication tools or online compilers). It’s an open-book challenge designed to see how you solve problems.

The results will be announced by April 10th and if you're selected, you'll need to confirm your spot by April 11th.

What to expect each week

Our Sundays will be interactive and productive. Here’s the typical flow:

1.Kick-off (8:00 AM): We'll start by tackling any bugs or questions from the previous week's homework.
2.Quick recap: A short, informal quiz to make sure the key concepts from the last lesson have stuck.
3.New lesson: A 30–60-minute presentation introducing the day's new topic.
4.Hands-on coding: You'll immediately apply what you've learned through practical tasks. Anything you don't finish becomes homework, which usually takes between 0-4 hours a week.

This workshop is a serious commitment, but the payoff is huge. You'll finish the semester not just with more knowledge, but with a project that proves your skills.

This is your chance to go beyond the classroom and build something real. Are you in?

Don't wait! Send your CV and cover letter to learningcenter-romania@gameloft.com by April 3rd.
