Every great journey starts with great people, and ours began 25 years ago.
As part of our 25th anniversary celebrations, we’re interviewing some of the people who helped shape Gameloft into what it is today.
We talked to Trang Pham Thu, GFX senior 2D graphic artist at Gameloft Hanoi, to learn about the beginning of her journey in gaming and why she chose to turn her passion into a career.
Where were you at 25?
I was living and working in Hanoi, Vietnam. At that time, I was creating assets for a farming game on Facebook. I was exposed to many different game genres at the company I was working for, which was very useful and interesting.
What were you playing at 25?
I spent a lot of time playing games like DotA, Counter-Strike, and MMORPGs with my friends. Playing online games with friends was very fun, but we weren’t really playing together online. We often gathered in the same room on weekends and had LAN parties.
Why gaming?
I chose to work in the gaming industry because I have a huge passion for gaming. I have been playing games since I was a kid, and I feel there is nothing more wonderful than being able to participate in the production of games that can become part of someone's childhood.
Most important advice?
If I had any advice, I would probably recommend everyone to try becoming a game artist like me. It's really a job that I love, and of course, I want everyone to love it!
Your inspirations?
Imagination is my inspiration. Always keep your imagination free—that's how I keep my inspiration fresh.
Favorite game?
My favorite game is Dota 2. Even though it's a pretty hard game for me and I'm not good at it, I still like it quite a bit. It’s very dramatic and full of emotions.
What do games mean to you?
I have a lot of good friends who I have played games with and known since I was very young. Games helped me make friends, and of course, being a game artist is my job. They also keep me entertained and help me relax and train my intelligence... they really mean a lot to me!
