Spain's representatives for the MCVS HONOR International Series are The Royals. With the finals taking place in Paris this Saturday we talked to some of the team's members to discover how they came together and to see how confident they are of walking out with first place and the €10,000 grand prize.
Watch The Royals fight in the Series finals from the Paris ESL Studio, live this Saturday at 4PM UTC.
Your team is called The Royals, where do your name and logo come from?
ELN: The Royals [were] born almost 4 years ago in a small pension [hotel] in Colombia, Barranquilla. [I was] talking on Skype with Threat [about taking Modern Combat] more seriously. We organized and coordinated one of the first gamer groups specialized in shooters for smartphones in the Spanish speaking ecosystem.
Noiinfo: The [logo's] purple color is symbolic of striking equality between genders, a principle that The Royals team makes its own.
How did you meet?
ELN: The members of The Royals who are [...] traveling to Paris are GodZilla, Noiinfo, and Cooper. Cooper and Noiinfo are [childhood friends who live in my town] Sa Pobla, Spain. I have known them all my life. It is thanks to them I have been able to move to another level of team organization [by] practicing and executing game plans in person.
GodZilla was a player who [like me] had a very high local rank. [...] We were finally able to get in touch using Modern Combat Versus' Clan Chat, it would have been impossible otherwise.
Noiinfo: Godzilla is one of those players who knows the mechanics of the game. [Plus he has a] beautiful relationship with the team.
What was it like proving yourselves the best MCVS players in Spain?
ELN: The truth is that it was not very complicated the teams we were competing with were very uncoordinated. After contacting them and establishing a nice relationship with their leaders, some told me that they only created their teams to be able to compete in the MCVS HONOR International Series.
Cooper: I think the level is lower compared to other teams in Europe. Eeven though there is a scene it is a very small community, [however] little by little it is growing. It is a great game that should have more [...] players.
Any tips for MCVS players looking to compete at your level?
ELN: Sincerely, the best advice I can give to anyone who starts in the world [of smartphone shooters is] never get used to automatic shooting if you are really thinking of reaching a high level of play. [Also, don't under estimate the] implementation of audio output and input devices such as headphones to [raise your] team's game.
Cooper: I think being agile with the fingers and having [good] reflexes is fundamental. Meeting people and learning from them is a basic [thing you can do to improve], but the main thing is to have skill with your fingers.
Noiinfo: The advice [I would give to] new MCVS players who want to compete at a high level is [...] communication, without it the team cannot exist.

So, you are off to the finals in Paris – what are your chances of winning?
ELN: I see that we have many more chances to win than [when the team formed] a month ago. For me that has never been an obstacle, since Modern Combat 5 I always liked to grab players considered [new comers] and make them grow as team players - both in the sphere of ESL and outside.
Cooper: I really do not know, there are very competitive teams with really good players. Our team will compete and give everything to win.
Noiinfo: Well, being real and sincere [we] make a very good team. I think we have a chance to fight and win at the finals in Paris.
Do you have a message for the competition?
ELN: I would like [to personally] wish good luck to all the rival teams. But, on behalf of The Royals, they will not pass! THE ROYALS, NO PASARAN!
Cooper: I hope it's a good show [...] we will fully endeavor to win the competition.
Noiinfo: I wish you good luck, enjoy.
